ArmInfo. The upcoming elections in Artsakh will summarize the struggle of political figures - the permanent inhabitants of the old swamp - with those who are carriers of the public's request for fundamental changes in the republic. A similar opinion was expressed by ArmInfo Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, ex-Foreign Minister of Artsakh Arman Melikyan.
Parliamentary and presidential elections in the Republic of Artsakh will be held on March 31. Election day was announced on the air of local television and radio by the head of the Artsakh CEC, Srbui Arzumanyan. In connection with the elections, March 31 was declared a day off. A dozen candidates expressed a desire to take part in the presidential election.
"At the same time, the long-standing swamp in the upcoming elections is represented by many people. However, it is still unclear who intends to take real responsibility for the expected changes. Accordingly, it seems difficult to make any predictions about the candidates' chances against this background," he noted he.
Commenting on the possible impact on the election outcome, the candidates's point of view regarding the resolution of the Artsakh issue, Melikyan noted that the outcome of the election race will not be decided by the words spoken during the election campaign, but by the real affairs of the candidates. In his opinion, the people of Artsakh are no longer inclined to the prospect of being deceived. In this light, he believes that if it is impossible to falsify, the political swamp will be doomed to defeat.
Noting efforts to destabilize the political situation in Artsakh, Melikyan expressed hope for the existence of forces in the country with political responsibility and sufficient influence to ensure the legitimacy of the upcoming electoral processes.
"As for the position of Yerevan, Prime Minister Pashinyan assumed the role of guarantor of fair elections in Artsakh. In this light, any public support of the prime minister for any candidate will automatically deprive him of a role that inspires confidence of an impartial guarantor. Which, in turn, will be a blow to the reliability of the final election results. I think that the Armenian authorities are well aware of this, "summed up Melikyan. -
