ArmInfo. To lose the momentum for reform in the judicial system means to inflict a serious blow to the achievements of the "velvet" revolution. The deputy chairman of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) Aram Manukyan stated this at a press conference on December 23.
Summing up the outgoing political year, Manukyan characterized 2019 as a positive and successful period for the Armenian people, while at the same time expressing dissatisfaction with the fact that the authorities are hesitant and cautious in the issue of reforming the judicial system. "The slowness and delay in these processes does not inspire the ANC," he said.
According to Manukyan, the country's leadership is so insecure due to the fact that it fears the assessment of international organizations. In his opinion, such a policy is much preferable for European structures than jerks aimed at deepening transformations, although Manukyan recalled that revolutions have their own rules and approaches.
Manukyan is convinced that over time, the need for reforms "is fraying" , and at the same time the desire to carry them out is weakened, and the process begins to "decay".
<Armenia previously was not in some sort of box that could be called a natural stage of development, the revolution took place against the criminal regime, which for 20 years had been detrimental to the state. Today, this regime continues to influence social processes in order to neutralize the achievements of the current authorities, "Manukyan said, warning the latter that one should not talk to the previous regime on the basis of politeness. In this context, he calls on the country's leadership to give the reforms an accelerated pace and strength in order to exclude the return of the "Kocharyan-Serzhe regime" in the future.
At the same time, the politician considers it impossible to return these revanchists to the real political and opposition field, explaining this by the fact that these forces have no moral and political support, and by the fact that the degree of disgust, hatred and indifference to them among the population is too high. However, Manukyan, considers it obvious that although the former authorities have their own tools for conducting politics, they do not pose any danger.
<The rating is not always in your hands, once it seemed to us that we would always be in power, but the moment comes when you lose power and you are obliged to take quick steps to implement the reforms promised to the people. These issues need to be resolved at an accelerated pace, <because you may not be tomorrow>, Manukyan summed up, recalling the events that Armenia experienced like <October 27> (shooting in the 1999 parliament), <March 1> (dispersal of protesters in 2008 (which led to 10 reserves), warning that there are forces in the country for which these methods are not alien, urging the authorities to be vigilant.
