ArmInfo.On November 4, Artsakh Ombudsman Artak Beglaryan participated in the international conference of the European Ombudsman Institute, held in Innsbruck (Austria). The event was dedicated to the role of a human rights defender in strengthening democracy and civil society.
According to the press service of the Ombudsman, as a full member organizations, Beglaryan participated in thematic discussions. In particular, he raised the issue of international isolation unrecognized states that this negatively affects strengthening democratic institutions. He emphasized that, despite the relevant provisions of international instruments, the international community is opposed to the principle of universality of human rights.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the European Ombudsman Institute Joseph Siegele noted that, according to the position of his organization, human rights have no boundaries. In addition, he also expressed confidence that inclusiveness contributes to the protection of human rights and the consolidation of democracy.
During the conference, the parties exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
