ArmInfo.US Ambassador to Ankara David Satterfield was summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Wednesday following the adoption of two "anti-Turkish" resolutions in the House of Representatives of the US Congress.
According to Anadolu, with reference to diplomatic sources, the Turkish ambassador was informed by the Turkish side about the adoption of resolutions on the events of 1915 and on sanctions against Turkey. The Turkish Foreign Ministry emphasized that the document on the events of 1915 does not have any historical and legal foundations and is designed for an internal audience. In addition, the Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the document providing for sanctions against Turkey due to the anti-terrorist operation "Source of Peace".
It should be noted that the US House of Representatives adopted a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide during the October 29 vote. The resolution, sponsored by Adam Schiff and Gus Bilirakis, was introduced in April of this year and aimed at denying the refusal of the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman Empire in 1915, recognition and mention of the Armenian Genocide by the US government, the importance of raising awareness of the Armenian Genocide in terms of preventing such crimes further.
Note that official Ankara has already issued a statement in which it condemned these actions of the House of Representatives and rejected this resolution. Turkey was also assured that these actions of the House of Representatives will affect US-Turkish relations. Ankara also criticized its American partners for adopting a bill providing for sanctions against Turkey for its military operation in Syria, as well as for the purchase of Russian S-400 systems.
