ArmInfo. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian held talks with a delegation of the Canadian SkyPower Global company headed by Chief Commercial Officer Charles Cohen.
As the RA President's press service told ArmInfo, welcoming the company's intentions to establish cooperation with Armenia, Sarkissian emphasized that Armenia attaches great importance to the development of the renewable energy sector and its open for cooperation. He expressed hope that at a meeting with government representatives concrete results will be achieved and areas of cooperation outlined.
In turn, Charles Cohen said that they are interested in cooperation with Armenia and have already carried out preliminary studies of the possibilities of developing the solar energy sector in Armenia, programs for cooperation have been developed, which will be presented at upcoming meetings with representatives of the Armenian government.
As ArmInfo wrote earlier, the company's representatives will hold meetings at the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, as well as with representatives of Armenian companies involved in electricity projects, including in the field of solar generation.
SkyPower is a large Canadian international company specializing in the implementation of large projects in the field of solar energy and infrastructures. The company has offices in 34 countries around the world. Last year, the company announced an investment of $ 1.3 billion in the construction of photovoltaic solar energy production facilities in Uzbekistan with a total capacity of 1,000 MW of alternating current. It is expected that the projects will be implemented in Tashkent, Samarkand, Navoi, Jizzakh, Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions.
The first meeting between President Sarkissian and the head of the company took place in January of the current year in the UAE as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Development Week conference. It was there that an agreement was reached on visiting Armenia and continuing discussions on possible cooperation.
