ArmInfo.A positive trend was recorded in the Armenia-EU and Armenia-Germany relations. On March 26 in Yerevan at the conference "Armenia on the way to Europe", dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the activities of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Armenia, Bundestag deputy Albert Weiler said.
He noted that after last May processes in Armenia and the changes that occurred through the peaceful change of power, today we can say with confidence that the new authorities are committed to continuing the republic's foreign policy, including in terms of relations with the European Union.
In this regard, Weiler expressed conviction that Armenia has every opportunity to deepen relations with the European Union in different directions. He stated that there is serious potential for the development of trade and economic cooperation. The Bundestag deputy also stressed the importance of differentiating the signatories of the association agreement with the EU (Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) from those who seek to develop cooperation, such as Armenia. At the same time, he pointed out the importance of interaction and the creation of a market economy, recalling that the European Union is supporting Armenia on the issue of macroeconomics. He also called on the Armenian side to make additional efforts in this direction, in order to promote small and medium-sized businesses, which in turn would bring Armenia closer to the EU. "German entrepreneurs show interest in Armenia, and we hope that the Armenian authorities will make efforts to improve the investment environment in the republic," said the deputy.Weiler also touched upon international and regional security, stressing the importance of striving to reduce tensions in conflict zones, which in turn would strengthen economic opportunities. "Rapprochement with the EU also implies a deeper regional cooperation and the creation of a favorable investment environment," the deputy said, he recalled that Armenia and the EU agreed on positions on the issue of conflict resolution, including the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict.
"It is important for us to resolve conflicts peacefully at a very high level," said the deputy of the Bundestag. In conclusion, he stressed that the sovereign right of each state to decide when it is ready to rapprochement with the EU, noting that the implementation of any agreement is impossible without political will, implying the refusal of Armenia in 2013 to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union.
