ArmInfo. The cooperation between Yerevan and Brussels is completely transparent for Russia. The Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said this in an interview with TASS.
"I want to emphasize one important detail: we are completely transparent to our Russian partners in this process," he said. "And, very importantly, the European Union does not raise any geopolitical and foreign policy issues or conditions in this process." "This cooperation," the Armenian Prime Minister added, "concerns only internal democratic reforms in Armenia, especially after the events in the country last year. This reform agenda is very important for us."
The Prime Minister reminded that last year there was a non-violent, velvet, popular revolution in Armenia. As Pashinyan noted, for Armenia it is very important that all segments of the society in Russia correctly understand its essence, its reasons. "Unfortunately, many expert circles in Russia are still trying to present what happened in Armenia as an event from a series of so-called color revolutions. But it is very important for us that our Russian friends and colleagues understand that what happened has no geopolitical context and not a single foreign power was not involved in the process. It is a matter of national dignity and my personal dignity. Such an interpretation - that someone used the Armenian people for their geopolitical purposes - is offensive to us. Armenia - without a new country, an independent nation with a high sense of dignity, " Pashinyan said.
According to the Armenian Prime Minister, it is very important for Yerevan to be a reliable partner. "And we will be a reliable partner for all whom we ourselves consider to be our reliable partner, there can be no doubt about that. And those who are not reliable, we must evaluate - should we consider them our partners?" He said.
Touching on Yerevan's position on cooperation within the CIS, the Eurasian Economic Union, and assessing the effectiveness of these integration associations at the present time, Nikol Pashinyan said that these associations have proved their importance, they are very important for Armenia. At the same time, he stressed the need to improve them in order to make them more effective for their real development to take place. "If an organization has proven its importance, this does not mean that it should not be further developed. On the contrary, the development of the organization is very important for cooperation within the CIS, the EAEU to be more efficient and promising," he said.
Speaking about relations with Russia, the head of the Armenian government stated that the EEU is a priority for the further development of his country's economic cooperation with Moscow. "The fact is that within the framework of the EAEU our main economic partner is Russia. Of course, this is good, on the one hand, and on the other, it makes us think about the fact that we should further develop these relations. But for us it is very important that mutual the trade turnover was at a good level with other members of the EAEU, because it would mean an important and natural development of this association - we will do everything to make this happen, "he said. Nikol Pashinyan reminded that a very important event is soon planned - the EAEU has signed a free trade agreement with Iran, and now it is being ratified in the parliaments of the countries. "And I hope that during our chairmanship in the EAEU the agreement will come into force. I recently visited Iran and I can say that they are also looking forward to when it comes into force, because it really opens up new opportunities for economic cooperation ", the prime minister concluded.
