ArmInfo. The format of the negotiations on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict cannot be changed. According to Azerbaijani media, about this during the meeting with EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.
"The resolution of the conflict should be based on well-known UN Security Council resolutions, international principles, taking into account the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," Aliyev once again said, adding, "Conflicting official statements by the Armenian side are unacceptable and impede the negotiation process."
The Azerbaijani President also expressed satisfaction with the statements of a number of European Commissioners about the need to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of international norms, the inadmissibility of maintaining the status quo and changing the format of negotiations.
To note, the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan during a joint press conference with the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker stated that the upcoming meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will be devoted, among other things, to the issue of the negotiation format. "We believe, and our position has not changed, that in order to effectively resolve the issue it is necessary first of all to create an effective format with the participation of Nagorno-Karabakh in the negotiation process," Pashinyan said.
