ArmInfo. It is necessary to create strong democratic institutions in Armenia, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated at the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs in Brussels, answering the questions of Committee members.
According to the Prime Minister, undoubtedly, it is necessary to continue work on improving the electoral system. According to Pashinyan, it is necessary to effectively cooperate with the European Union in this direction. "We see that our European partners are ready to support us. I would like to emphasize that we are ready to fully implement the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, because we are convinced that it fully corresponds to our internal agenda and goals," he said. As the Prime Minister pointed out, the fight against corruption is an extremely important activity of the Cabinet of Ministers in establishing the rule of law in the country. As Pashinyan pointed out, a number of criminal cases have already been initiated against former officials. "The disclosures in this direction will continue, and the fate of these criminal cases must be decided by the courts. In this sense, it is extremely important to ensure the independence of the courts," he said.
According to him, from the very beginning, the new government made efforts to eradicate the previous practice of interfering in the decision-making process of the judicial system. As the prime minister noted, he is not sure that the former government or the oligarchy no longer uses its leverage on the judges. However, the new government will be committed to a policy of non-interference in the activities of the courts.
"The funds stolen from the state should be returned, and we hope that we will be able to establish effective cooperation with the European Union to achieve this goal. It is extremely important for us that the OSCE promised to help the Armenian leadership in returning public funds to the state," Nikol Pashinyansaid.
