The visit of Nikol Pashinyan began with a visit to the Catholic University of Leuven.University rector Luke Celse, welcoming the delegation led by the RA Prime Minister, stressed that the university is ready to develop cooperation with Armenia. He presented the activities of the Catholic University, noting that the university is the largest and most famous university in Belgium, which carries out international educational and research programs. All programs are based on innovative research scientists and university teachers. According to the rector, the Catholic University has 14 branches in 10 cities of Belgium and carries out educational and research projects in almost all areas. University studies are organized in 15 faculties, and research is carried out through separate departments and research groups. Faculties and departments are grouped into three groups: the humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, engineering and technology, and biomedicine, each of which has corresponding qualification programs and doctoral schools.
The Prime Minister was also presented the programs of the Leuven Office of Technology Research and Development.The RA Prime Minister noted that it is a great honor for him to be at one of the oldest and most modern universities in the world, which for almost six centuries has been engaged in the popularization of European science and is considered one of the 50 best universities in the world. According to Nikol Pashinyan, Armenia is at the stage of major political and economic reforms, and the government views education as one of the most important tools for success in the economic revolution. "The goal of state educational policy is to ensure effective communication of education and research.
We want to carry out real reforms in the education system, and in this context we note the importance of sharing experience, implementing joint programs with leading innovative educational and scientific institutions of the world," the Prime Minister noted. During the meeting, issues related to the possibilities of cooperation in the field of education were discussed. From the university, the Prime Minister went to the IMEC Research Center (Interuniversity Center for Microelectronics), where he got acquainted with its activities and discussed opportunities for cooperation. Ludo Defferm, Vice President of the Center, presented the IMEC Prime Minister, noting that this research organization specializes in research in the field of micro, nanoelectronics and digital technologies. He noted that about 4,000 people work at IMEC, and the center has offices in the Netherlands, in Taiwan, in China, India, the United States and Japan. Nikol Pashinyan visited the semiconductor cleaning laboratory. The next stop of the visit of the Prime Minister was the Health Center Leuven, which is a joint project of the Catholic University of Leuven and the IMEC Research Center.
Nikol Pashinyan, accompanied by the Director of the Center, Isabel Francois, inspected the exhibition hall and got acquainted with the activities and objectives of the Center. According to Isabelle Francois, the Health Center is a unique experimental institution whose visitors can get to know the future of healthcare with the help of modern technologies. Through demonstrations, the Prime Minister learned about the future of how technology, artificial intelligence, 3D modeling, media, and nanotechnology will affect healthcare.Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan informed the Director of the Catholic University of Leuven, the Vice President of IMEC and the Director of the Health Center that this year Armenia will host the World Congress on Information Technologies, which will be held in October in Yerevan, and invited them to participate in the congress.
