ArmInfo.Armenian police detained the former chief tax officer of Armenia, the so-called "super-minister", one of the richest people in the country, Gagik Khachatryan.
The Armenian police have not yet made a relevant statement, however, a credible source of ArmInfo confirmed this information, noting that Khachatryan hasn’t been charged yet, but this is a matter for a while.
It should be noted that Khachatryan was considered one of the closest persons of Serzh Sargsyan and enjoyed a special indulgence from the former head of state.
Despite the high positions he held as an official in the State Revenue Committee and the Ministry of Finance, Khachatryan did not hide his multimillion-dollar wealth. He owned a large number of different companies and was the ultimate beneficiary of one of the largest telecommunications companies in Armenia, Ucom, which, according to unconfirmed data and according to some market players, enjoyed the advantages of importing multimillion equipment and tax benefits to the country, creating unequal competitive conditions in the market.
