ArmInfo.Armenia considers Russia its strategic partner - this is the priority of the foreign policy of the government of Nikol Pashinyan, which is reflected in the five-year work plan of the Armenian Cabinet. Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan said this, speaking before the Russian MPs, reports the Parliamentary newspaper.
To note, this is the first in the history of bilateral visits speech by the Chairman of the Armenian Parliament at the plenary session of the Federation Council.
Ararat Mirzoyan noted that he intends to continue the dialogue with his Russian counterparts, strengthen and build it up at the level of inter-parliamentary cooperation. <Direct and sincere, friendly dialogue aimed at strengthening mutual trust acquires particular value in the light of the circumstances when some circles and third countries attempt to present processes in Armenia in a false light, weakening our common positions in the international arena. I declare with all responsibility - such attempts from the outset are doomed to complete failure - it's impossible to drive a wedge into relations between our countries, they are above the political situation, "he said.
He stressed that only politicians of the two countries can determine the agenda of bilateral relations, "based on historical spiritual closeness and mutual sympathy of our peoples". "Armenia considers Russia its strategic partner, this is a priority of our foreign policy, which is reflected in the five-year plan of the Armenian government, approved a few days ago by the authorities of our country," Ararat Mirzoyan said.
He called ensuring security in the region and in the world as a whole one of the key aspects of cooperation. <We are against the resolution of conflicts by military means and support the course of Russia towards a peaceful settlement. Armenia is committed exclusively to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, "the sSeaker said.
In his opinion, the Inter-Parliamentary Commission is an efficient tool for interaction. In this context, Mirzoyan suggested actively forming her new agenda. He highlighted the military cooperation with the Russian Federation, as well as the fact that a new commission has been formed in the National Assembly of Armenia, which will deal with the harmonization of legislation of the EAEU member countries. From January 1, Armenia will chair the bodies of the EAEU. Separately, the Speaker noted that 70 regions of Russia cooperate with the regions of Armenia. However, according to him, the two countries have "a clear untapped potential in interregional cooperation."
