ArmInfo. The development of the military-political situation in the world is mainly in a negative way. On February 6, during the video bridge Yerevan-Moscow-Minsk- Chisinau- Astana-Bishkek, Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, said this.
Sidorov noted that various kinds of provocations, economic and political sanctions, lead to a lower threshold for the use of force. According to him, one of the dangers is the destruction of the arms control system. "It should be emphasized that the main role in this is played by the United States of America, which suspended their participation in the treaty on the elimination of medium and short-range missiles. Moreover, this behavior is disturbing even among some US allies," the colonel general stressed. He also noted that NATO intends to deploy additional forces near the borders of the CSTO countries, which in itself is already a factor for concern.
Sidorov also noted that the situation in Ukraine continues to be another challenge to the international security system. "Kiev currently continues to bombard the territories of the unrecognized republics and capture the most advantageous positions on the contact line. Moreover, the leadership of Ukraine is making efforts to bring its military formations to NATO standards," the colonel general said.
"The situation in the Caucasus region continues to be quite complicated. In particular, the aspirations of the United States and several Western countries to influence the situation in the region lead to the presence of a high conflict potential. In particular, one of the security challenges in the region is the situation with Abkhazia and South Ossetia" - stressed Anatoly Sidorov. He noted that Tbilisi is actually blocking the negotiation process, refusing to sign commitments in connection with the non-use of force against Sukhumi and Tskhinval. Sidorov also noted that in turn, the leadership of the United States supports Georgia's anti- Russian policy and the country's desire to join NATO.
Also, the Colonel-General noted that in Central Asia, the main danger is the ongoing armed conflict in Afghanistan, "In the north of Afghanistan, the Taliban and ISIL terrorist organizations are quite active," Sidorov stressed.
He also spoke about the conduct of the "Combat Brotherhood-2018" exercise. Sidorov stressed that while performing a number of tasks, the experience of military operations in Syria was taken into account. "This has become an adequate response to the activation of terrorist organizations near the borders of the CSTO countries," the colonel general said.
Sidorov also said that the CSTO's "Combat Brotherhood-2019" exercise will be held in Russia, Belarus and Tajikistan. "As part of these exercises, we will work out tasks related to the planning of joint training of management bodies, as well as the formation of forces and means of collective security and improving the management of collective forces," the Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff said.
