ArmInfo.According to the opinion poll of the Analytical Center for Globalization and Regional Cooperation, 41.21% of Armenian residents consider Russia to be an ally of Armenia. The head of the center Stepan Grigoryan stated this at a press conference on February 1.
He noted that 39.70% of respondents said that Russia is a partly supporter of Armenia, and 19.10% stressed that the Russian Federation is not an ally of Armenia. Grigoryan noted that in 2017 the number of citizens who consider Russia to be their ally was 34.33%, that is, in 2018, the figures improved significantly. To the question whether the respondents consider that Russia ensures the security of Armenia, 30.28% answered that yes, the Russian Federation ensures the security of the RA, 45.25% said that it partially provides, 24.37% answered this question in the negative. While in 2017, 25.67% gave a positive answer to this question. When asked whether the respondents consider that close cooperation with Russia is an obstacle to relations with the European Union, 30.03% answered that yes, Russia prevents Armenia from developing relations with the EU, 31.91% answered that it partially hinders, and finally, 38, 07% answered does not interfere. While in 2017, 40.22% believed that Russia is hindering the development of Armenia's relations with the EU.
To the question of how Russia is affecting the negotiation process in the Karabakh conflict, 48.53% responded that Russia's actions in this matter are positive, 51.47% said that the influence of the Russian Federation in this matter is negative. Note that in 2017, only 40.11% considered the role of Russia in this matter positive. When asked whether the CSTO ensures the security of Armenia, 20.99% answered yes, 46.65% answered that partially, and finally, 32.36% answered that no, the CSTO does not ensure the safety of RA. In 2017, only 15.78% of respondents believed that the CSTO ensures the security of Armenia. When asked whether the citizens of the country consider that the CSTO will support the country in the event of war with Azerbaijan, 59.44% answered negatively, and 40.56% answered that yes, the CSTO will assist us in this matter. In 2017, the percentage of citizens who positively answered this question amounted to 31.22%.
When asked whether the respondents considered that Armenia should resume negotiations with Azerbaijan, 80.03% answered positively, and 19.97% negatively. When asked if citizens would like to do business or cooperate in any other field with representatives of Azerbaijan, 31.86% answered that they would, and 68.14% answered that they have no such desire.
66.92% rated positively the membership of the EEU in Armenia, and 32.95% negatively. In 2017, only 45.33% positively assessed membership in Armenia in the EAEU. When asked whether citizens think that the Armenian authorities should develop cooperation with the EU, 86.85% answered positively, and 13.15% negatively. As to whether the EU helps Armenia in the implementation of political and economic reforms, 40.38% answered that it helps, 47.04% answered that it partially helps, and finally, 12.58% thought it was not helping. In 2017, 35.22% of respondents positively evaluated the role of EU assistance in reforms in the country. 66.71% of respondents linked the future of Armenia with EU membership, while 33.29% did not. In 2017, the number of people hoping that RA will become a member of the EU was 58.89%. When asked how people relate to Armenia's membership in NATO, 69.89% thought that NATO membership would be positive for the country and 30.11% negative. In 2017, the number of people positively assessing the possible membership of Armenia in NATO was 61.67%. When asked whether the respondents believed that close cooperation with the EU and NATO could have a positive impact on the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, 32.79% answered positively, 47.07% answered that it could partially resolve the settlement, and 32.18% answered negatively.
As for how compatriots regard Georgia's possible membership in NATO, 71.19% rated this possibility positively, and 28.81% negatively.
45.59% of respondents believe that after the April revolution, coverage of events in the country on the Public TV Channel of Armenia changed for the better, 38.16% found it difficult to answer this question, 16.25% said they did not notice any changes.
When asked whether citizens of the country believe the fight against corruption of the new authorities, 84.51% answered that yes, 15.24% said they did not believe. To the question whether the respondents believe that the new authorities are taking sufficient active steps to implement socio-economic and political reforms in the country, 46.10% answered yes, 40.18% said they partially, and finally, 13.73% stressed not.
And finally, to the last question, whether the residents of Armenia believe the information spread by the Russian TV channels, 35.73% answered that they believed, while 64.14% answered that they did not.
To note, this poll was conducted from August to September 2018, in 6 cities of Armenia - Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor, Vayq, Yeghegnadzor and Martuni. 800 citizens took part in the survey.
