ArmInfo. The increase in the number of traffic violations on the roads of Armenia is due to the unprecedented increase in car imports to the country. Chief of the Armenian Police, Colonel Armen Ghukasyan, announced this at a meeting with journalists.
"In 2018, about 74 thousand vehicles were imported to Armenia, while in 2017 this figure was about 39 thousand cars," said Ghukasyan, noting that the trend will continue this year. However, according to him, by 2020 the situation with congestion on the roads will be much easier.
He noted that in 2018, the number of traffic rules violations amounted to 4,111, while in 2017 this figure was 3,552. The number of victims and wounded also increased accordingly, Ghukasyan said.
Nevertheless, according to him, a 20-point system for assessing traffic violations will be an efficient way to prevent them. He stressed that after the introduction of this reform, malicious violators of traffic rules will be deprived of not only driving licenses, but may also be subject to criminal liability.
