Such an opinion during the speech at the international conference "10-year activity of the human rights defender of Armenia as a national preventive mechanism for the prevention of torture" said head of the EU delegation in Armenia Piotr Switalski.
At the same time, he expressed the conviction that Armenia can be proud of the developed institute of human rights defender. "Armenia has advanced experience that it can share with partners. In addition, the ombudsman institution is gaining power and has a great influence on the protection of human rights," said a European diplomat.
At the same time, he expressed the conviction that the new Armenia should pay serious attention to human rights issues, since this issue affects real actors of the society. "The European Union is ready to continue cooperation with the Armenian side on this issue," he said.
At the same time, the Ambassador stressed the importance of a thorough investigation and disclosure of all cases, including the events of March 2008. In this context, Switalski positively assessed the government's move on establishment cameras at police stations. In turn, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan, Natalia Voutova, also praised the work of the Ombudsman institution. At the same time, she added that two CE projects contributed to this event. "It is important for us that the CE standards in the field of human rights protection have practical application in Armenia," she concluded.
To note, the event, organized by the Ombudsman's Office, was attended by delegations from more than 50 countries. The goal of the conference is to present the achievements of Armenia in a preventive mechanism for the prevention of torture and experience, as well as discuss the existing challenges faced by national preventive mechanisms.
