ArmInfo. Ombudsman of Armenia Arman Tatoyan came out with a statement on the current situation in the country.
The statement by Tatoyan, received by ArmInfo, reminds that a human rights defender carries out a mission to protect human constitutional rights and freedoms.
The Armenian Ombudsman stressed that the recent events in the country are under his scrutiny, and their study has led to the identification of a number of issues requiring voicing. "Firstly, thanks to the democratic processes in the country in May-April of this year, the citizen of Armenia, through free will, was able to provide fundamental changes concerning each of us. Secondly, the results of these democratic processes must be applied to provide a solid foundation for the public trust of broad public strata. Thirdly, at the same time, it is necessary to guarantee the implementation of state power in accordance with the Constitution and countries, with a clear separation and balancing of legislative, executive and judicial powers. Each of these authorities should respect the other, and be guided only by the imperative and the boundaries of the status assigned to it. This approach will approve a new stage of democratic development and the rule of law any deviation from the achieved success ", Tatoyan said, adding, any process in the country should be based on the principle of the supremacy of the law, and any initiative should be based respect for human rights.
The Ombudsman also noted that it is necessary to respect the rights and freedoms of others, and not to allow non-legal intervention, to respect the dignity of each person. According to him, it is in this way that an atmosphere of mutual respect and solidarity is formed in society.
Tatoyan pointed to the need to protect freedom of speech on the part of all, noting that this is directly related to the spread of dissent and is especially necessary for the country today. The human rights defender with dissatisfaction noted an increase in hatred and insults, as evidenced by the monitoring of social networks in recent days. "The monitoring showed that" any side ", especially criticism of the executive branch, and in some cases, just publications containing dissent, in the comments are subjected to insults, hatred and threats from social network users. Often, comments are left without studying this publication, only based on the title of the material and its author. Fake users are especially aggressive, their number has increased dramatically. There has been an increase in the number of aggressive entries in relation to members of parliament, which causes concern in terms of the role and image of the National Assembly. Obviously, this situation is a factor that reinforces intolerance. This has a negative effect on solidarity in society, "said Tatoyan.
He is deeply convinced that the media and journalists play an important role in this situation. In this regard, he urged to remove from his publications any comments containing insult, hatred or violence, regardless of whether they were made fake or a real user. The Ombudsman is convinced that this will contribute to ensuring tolerance and solidarity. "We need to completely eliminate the tendencies of dividing society into groups. This is fundamentally unacceptable. This phenomenon is problematic from the point of view of the entire system of protection of human rights in the country. This can have deep negative consequences, the elimination of which will require long-term efforts. We must stop trying to divide society into the "old" and "new." It is especially dangerous when it is done by public figures, and in some cases, human rights activists. It is also one of the factors undermining solidarity and not contributing to the strengthening of state power. Any problem should be solved through dialogue, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and solidarity, "the Ombudsman of Armenia concluded.
