ArmInfo. The Armenian government approved amendments to the Judicial Code and the Law on State Duty at a meeting on September 27.
According to the First Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Artur Hovhannisyan, the presented package is aimed at excluding subjectivity when presenting presidential candidates for judges to the RA President. Currently, according to the Judicial Code, the Supreme Council of Judges is represented by the secret ballot for nomination of judges for approval by the President of the country. Now it is proposed to establish a provision providing for holding an open vote, which will make it possible to clearly present the positions of the council members on this or that candidate. It is proposed, for example, that the first deputy minister continues, to introduce a provision according to which members of the Supreme Judicial Council will be able to vote against one or another candidate if it contradicts the principle of priority. The fact is that some judges who graduated from the Academy of Justice are in reserve, and have an advantage over others when appointing to the post. "The presented package specifies the person who can not be nominated for approval of the president," the deputy head of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia said.
