ArmInfo.Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and EU Commissioner for European Policy on Neighborhood and negotiations on the expansion of Johannes Khan in the UN headquarters discussed the further development of relations between Armenia and the European Union. As the press service of the government reports, the interlocutors discussed issues aimed at enhancing interaction, and touched on further steps aimed at implementing the Agreement on a comprehensive and expanded partnership.
Nikol Pashinyan noted that the Armenian government adheres to the path of progressive democratic development of the country, ensuring the rule of law, protecting human rights, strengthening the competitive and favorable business environment. In this context, the head of government attached importance to the EU's comprehensive assistance to the ongoing democratic reforms in Armenia. Referring to the early elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan, Pashinyan noted that over 80% voted for the block "My step".
This, as pointed out by the prime minister, indicates that the society voted in favor of holding early parliamentary elections. As the head of the Armenian government emphasized, the elections were free and transparent, and the fact that the defeated political forces congratulated the winner is unprecedented in Armenia and can become a good political culture. The head of government also informed that in the near future he is going to start consultations with other political forces on the issue of holding early parliamentary elections. Johannes Khan, in his turn, noted that the EU will consistently continue programs and activities aimed at stimulating interaction with Armenia, assisting in the framework of the Agreement on Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership to further strengthen democracy in the country, the rule of law and the protection of human rights, and reform of the development of the judicial system. Khan stressed that Armenia can count on the EU's consistent assistance in initiating radical reforms in accordance with the priorities of the Armenian government.
