ArmInfo. Former Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, his brother, Jonik Abrahamyan, and former police chief, Republican Party (RPA) deputy Alik Sargsyan are suspected of abuse of power and fraud.
According to the press service of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, due to the investigative measures in the criminal case, based on the statement of the director of Avazahatic, founded in 2000, and dealing with the mining industry in the Ararat region, it was found that "by attracting credit funds, the company invested about $ 80 thousand, acquiring a conveyor line for washing and sifting sand, but in 2008, high-ranking officials created artificial barriers to the operation of the enterprise, demanding 60% of the shares , claiming that otherwise it would simply cease to function, while 60% of shares needed to be issued for two persons, 30% each, and it was found out that the head of the community Noramarg had filed a lawsuit to dissolve the previously signed agreement on the lease of land from Avazahatik.The company was engaged in exploration of sand in this area.The court granted the claim, after which a new agreement was signed with other landowners.The witnesses who passed the case named the names of Hovik Abrahamyan, Jonik Abrahamyan and Alik Sargsyan, in the message of the RA SC. At the same time, the department stresses that the criminal case has been sent to the Special Investigation Service. Recall that the brother of former Prime Minister of Armenia - Jonik Abrahamyan is currently under preliminary arrest on charges of illegal possession of weapons in the criminal case on murders in opposition protest actions on March 1, 2008. The investigation wanted to clarify the sources of the acquisition of weapons and the possibility of its use in March 2008. From 2003 to 2007, Jonik Abrahamyan was also a deputy of the Armenian parliament.
Hovik Abrahamyan was the head of the Armenian government from 2014 to 2016. In different years he was also the speaker of the parliament and the vice-premier of Armenia . The deputy of the parliament, Lieutenant-General Alik Sargsyan worked as the head of the Armenian police from 2008 to 2011. After his resignation, he was appointed adviser to the president of the republic. In 2013 he was elected to the parliament on the RPA list.
