ArmInfo. The timing of the holding of the solemn events dedicated to the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan has been changed. The city's day and the holiday "Erebuni-Yerevan 2800" will be held on October 20-21 this year. The decision on this was taken at a government session on August 30.
Presenting the draft decision, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Development Suren Papikyan noted that initially it was planned to hold the solemn events on September 29-30. However, from 7 to 12 September in the capital of Armenia, the Francophonie summit will be held. In addition, at the end of September elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan are scheduled, which should elect the mayor and decide on the agenda of the solemn events. In this regard, it is proposed to postpone the date of the City Day.
To recall, elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan will be held on September 23, 2018. The mayor of Yerevan became vacant after the capital's mayor Taron Margaryan resigned on July 9. Erebuni (Yerevan) was founded in 782 BC in the southeast of the Armenian highland by the king Argishti the First. The cornerstone, on which the year of foundation of Yerevan was carved, is still intact and is located in the Erebuni Fortress Museum. Yerevan Day is celebrated annually, starting from 1968.
