ArmInfo.Candidacy of adviser to Artsakh President Emil Babayan for the position of judge of the Constitutional Court of Armenia was rejected by the Armenian parliament at the meeting on May 4.
According to the chairman of the temporary counting commission of the parliament Gagik Melikyan, out of 105 deputies in the secret ballot, 54 deputies took part, 51 of them voted for the candidacy of Emil Babayan. At the same time, three ballots were declared invalid. Thus, Emil Babayan did not obtain the necessary number of votes for the election of a judge to the Constitutional Court.
Even before the voting, the Bloc Tsarukyan and Yelk factions announced their decision not to participate in the elections, since the procedure for nominating candidates for the Constitutional Court judges is very doubtful.
To recall, according to the first part of A 166, A 213 and part three of Article 141 of the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Armenia "On the Rules of the National Assembly", the President of Armenia offered nominee Emil Babayan to the vacant seat of the Constitutional Court judge who is currently an adviser to the President of the Republic of Artsakh.
