The National Security Service notes that with the active cooperation and exchange of information with foreign partners, as well as a result of operational search activities and investigative actions, at the beginning of the year attempts were made to penetrate into Armenia those who are related to international terrorist groups. "To prevent continued attempts to take advantage of the current tense situation in Armenia and make it a target, the NSS, in parallel with the activation of intelligence and counterintelligence activities, has also strengthened border control. "A possible attempt by a Russian citizen, a resident of Makhachkala Suleymangagi Bagandgadzhiyev, to enter secretly into Armenia, prevented by the National Security Service of Armenia on February 13, 2018, testified to possible signs of the threat posed by threatening Armenia by international terrorist groups. In particular, the NSS, as a result of the measures taken to protect the state border, found out that Bagandgadzhiyev, flying on a transit flight from Kenya, on the forged documents of a citizen of Ukraine, attempted to enter the territory of Armenia, "the National Security Service said. It is emphasized that in fact a criminal case was opened and Bagandgadzhiyev was charged under A 325 part 1 and A329 part of the RA Criminal Code, a 1-month arrest was chosen as a preventive measure.
NSS notes that thanks to the operative and investigative measures taken, Suleymangagi Bagandgadzhiev was recruited by an international terrorist organization and, since May 2015, had been involved in armed clashes in the Syrian Arab Republic for a fee. "In the course of investigative actions, information was also received about the interest shown by Bagandgadzhiyev to certain localities of Yerevan and other cities of Armenia. The investigation is ongoing, measures are being taken to find out the true aims of Bagandgadzhiyev's visit to Armenia, "the NSS statement reads.
