ArmInfo. Yerevan is convinced that the lack of a proper reaction of the international community to the statements of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who expressed his claims to the Armenian territories, led to the sounding of new threats about the use of force now at the level of the Defense Minister of the AR.
"The lack of an adequate reaction of the international community to the statement of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who expressed territorial claims to Armenia, inspired the Defense Minister of Azerbaijan, Zakir Hasanov, to voice new threats about the use of force," Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesman Tigran Balayan wrote on his Facebook page.
It should be noted that on the eve of the meeting, Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov, during a meeting with the delegation headed by the special envoy of the European Union on the crisis in the South Caucasus and Georgia, Toivo Claar, did not exclude a new war in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In particular, he stated that since the two armed armies are facing each other on the front line, it is possible that military operations can resume at any moment. Hasanov also stated that the negotiation process is still unsuccessful. The minister noted that instead of investigating the consequences of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, it would be better if the international structures, having made every effort to fully resolve the conflict, tackle the root causes of its emergence.
It should be recalled that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made a claim to Yerevan during the speech at the VI Congress of the New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), calling it the historic Azerbaijani territory. "We must not forget and do not forget about our historical lands. This should be the direction of our future activities, as we are now working in this direction. Our historical lands are the Yerevan Khanate, Zangezur-Goycha. And we, Azerbaijanis, should return to these lands. This is our political and strategic goal, and we should approach this goal step-by-step, "Aliyev said. He also stressed that the policy of isolating Armenia from all regional projects will continue until the "Azerbaijani territories" are liberated.
