ArmInfo. The Karabakh conflict can be resolved only when Azerbaijan refuses maximalist expectations. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said on January 12 in Yerevan at a joint press conference with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev.
Thus, commenting on the possible reasons for the postponement of the early presidential elections in Azerbaijan, Sargsyan said that only Aliyev himself and a few people know this. At the same time, the President added that he does not agree with the statement that the reason may be the desire of Azerbaijan to resolve the Karabakh conflict as soon as possible. According to him, in the past there were opportunities to promote the process, but the actions of Baku led to the fact that now we can only talk about missed opportunities. "Regardless of the parliamentary or presidential elections in Azerbaijan, the Karabakh conflict can be resolved only in one case - if Azerbaijan refuses its maximalist, unrealistic expectations. Until Azerbaijan remains in the arms of dreams and raves about the seizure of Yerevan or Zangezur, we can not hope that the conflict will be resolved," Sargsyan said. At the same time, the Armenian leader recalled that he repeatedly declared Armenia's readiness on the basis of the proposals of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, intensify the talks, reduce tension and reach a solution. Referring to Bulgaria's position on the Karabakh conflict settlement, the Armenian President said in part: "I expressed its gratitude to the Bulgarian side for its balanced stance on the Karabakh issue." Bulgaria has always supported the EU's position at all venues and advocated a peaceful settlement of the conflict. "The Armenian President noted that the statement of Azerbaijan during the visit to Baku by the President of Bulgaria that they are grateful to Bulgaria for its position on the conflict is only a provocation. The head of the Armenian state also said that Armenia already has achievements on the Karabakh issue. "The achievement is that the framework agreement with the EU, signed on November 24 last year, contains clear language on the conflict, the EU countries must ratify this document and give it legal force with the ensuing consequences," Sargsyan summed up. On February 8, Ilham Aliyev, during his speech at the 6th congress of the Yeni Azerbaijan Party, once again presented claims to Yerevan, calling it a historical Azeri territory.
