ArmInfo.Armenia will welcome Azerbaijan's accession to the EAEU if Baku adheres to the rules established for both the observer country and the member state of the Union. Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said this in a conversation with journalists on November 23 after the Armenian government's meeting, commenting on the statements of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Baku about the readiness to host Azerbaijan in the EAEU.
According to Kocharyan, Azerbaijan's accession to the Unified Energy System means the preservation of the item of the Union Treaty, which states that not only the EAEU member countries, but also the observer countries of the EAEU should not take action that damages the EAEU countries. "This implies that if Azerbaijan wishes to get closer to the EAEU in one form or another, then it should not take such actions," the Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister said. Considering the issue from the economic point of view, Deputy Foreign Minister noted that it is enough that Azerbaijan keeps Armenia in the blockade, that is, it takes actions directed against the interests of the member state of the EAEU. In this context, as Kocharian noted, Armenia will welcome this accession if Azerbaijan adheres to the rules established both for the country of the observer and the member state of the Union. "This means that Baku must abandon the blockade, the implementation of hostile actions against Yerevan and Armenian aimed phobia ," the deputy head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry concluded.
