ArmInfo. The statement of the blogger Alexander Lapshin convicted in Baku on extradition to Israel was transferred to the Justice Ministry of Azerbaijan, the verdict on the blogger's case takes effect on August 14. This was reported to RIA Novosti by Lapshin's lawyer Eduard Chernin. "The application for extradition was transferred to the Ministry of Justice," Chernin said. He added that extradition is possible only after the court verdict comes into force. "The sentence comes into force approximately on the 14th," the lawyer said.
As previously reported to ArmInfo, blogger Alexander Lapshin was sentenced to three years' imprisonment by the verdict of the Azerbaijani court. Even a public "remorse" in the courtroom for visiting Artsakh, a statement on the need to resolve the Karabakh conflict within the framework of Azerbaijan's interests, did not help the blogger to avoid Azerbaijani "justice". Although, perhaps, Lapshin's "repentance" helped him to soften the measure of punishment, as previously the prosecutor demanded for him 6.5 years of imprisonment.
Lapshin was declared by the Azerbaijani authorities to be internationally wanted after visiting Artsakh. Later he was arrested in Belarus and extradited to Azerbaijan. Attempts by the MFA of Russia and Ukraine (Lapshin was a citizen of these states and Israel) to correct the situation appeared to be ineffective.
