ArmInfo.The Armenian State Tourism Committee is preparing to host tourists from Iran for Novruz holiday (International Day of Novruz celebrated on 21 March, the New Year holiday according to the astronomic solar calendar of Iranian and Turkic nations - editor's note).
As the press-service of the Committee told ArmInfo, a meeting with the stakeholders covered issues related to information availability for Iranian tourists in Farsi. Particularly, publication of Persian-language information brochures on Armenia is planned. The brochures will be given to Iranian tourists at the border checkpoints. The meeting also covered issues on setting up billboards on the roads and functioning of hotlines.
To recall, according to the information of Iranian side, in 2016 compared to the same period of last year, during 3 days preceding Novruz, the number of Iranians coming to Armenia grew by 43%. The Armenian side says that the number of Iranians coming to Armenia increases every year. For example, according to the survey conducted in 2009 their number was more than 80 thousand, whereas in 2010 the number of Iranians grew by 40% to over 120 thousand.
Earlier it was reported that in 2016 2.867 million foreign citizens arrived in Armenia, 1.259 million of them as tourists. As the State Tourism Committee noted, the biggest role in the growth of tourism in Armenia belongs to the citizens of Russia, Iran, UAE, China and others - the number of Iranian tourists in 2016 grew by 30%, Russians - by 2.3%, versus 6% fall a year before.
