ArmInfo. Recently the negotiations between Armenia and EU in respect to the new legal document proceed successfully, Matthias Kiesler, the Ambassador of Germany to Armenia, stated in Yerevan on November 22.
He reminded, that the second round of negotiations is planned for December of the current year. "The fact that such an Agreement will be signed is a success on its own, and that is a signal addressed to Europe, that Armenia takes the path of reforms and modernization, and that Europe is an important partner for Armenia. And I am confident that all the EU m ember countries are interested to give new impulses to this cooperation," diplomat mentioned.
At the same time Kiesler thinks, that exactly such news could become an important motivation for European businessmen to implement trade and industrial projects in Armenia. According to him, that could become a positive factor for the development of this aspect.
To recall, on October 12, 2015, in Luxembourg, the Council authorized the European Commission and the High Representative to open negotiations on a new, legally binding and overarching agreement with Armenia, and adopted the corresponding negotiating mandate. This agreement will replace the current EU- Armenia partnership and cooperation agreement. The EU is committed to further develop and strengthen comprehensive cooperation with Armenia in all areas of mutual interest within the Eastern Partnership framework. On December 7, 2015, at the EU Headquarters in Brussels, Edward Nalbandian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice- President of the Commission, announced the launch of negotiations on a new Armenia-European Union framework agreement. In October 2016, Garen Nazarian said that the Armenia-EU framework agreement will probably by signed in Q1 2017.
