ArmInfo. Armenian Justice Minister Arpine Hovhannisyan discussed with Venice Commission representatives and OSCE/ODIHR experts the draft law "On political parties".
The press office of the Justice Ministry of Armenia has told ArmInfo that Hovhannisyan presented the upcoming changes regarding the demands related to the number of members for the party's registration. The minister said that the draft law will be discussed at the Public Council of the Justice Ministry and afterwards in the Parliament.
According to the draft law, at the moment of registration the party shall have no fewer than 1,000 founders representing Yerevan and at least 1/3 of the provinces. The party's activities can be suspended if the party roughly violates the law. The activities of the party will be banned if the party calls for overthrow of the constitutional order.
To note, according to the constitutional reforms approved in Dec 2015, the draft law "On political parties" is considered constitutional and the adoption of the law needs 3/5 of the lawmakers' votes.
