ArmInfo. On the occasion of his 48th birth anniversary, Armenian Rebirth leader Artur Baghdasaryan made a statement, explaining the motivation of his political actions and highlighting the further plans of his party.
When explaining why he joined the ruling coalition with Serzh Sargsyan in 2008, Baghdasaryan said, "This was done to prevent bloodshed," he said, confessing that his step contained not only a moral aspect but also some pragmatic goals, particularly, to put his and his teammates' ideas and programs in practice.
At the same time, Baghdasaryan said that he does not regret his decisions though he failed to put most of his programs in practice. "This is why we joined the opposition and set up the Armenian Rebirth party, which is not a radical force, however," he said.
He added that following the parliamentary elections of 2017, Armenian Rebirth will join a coalition with other ruling forces if it has levers of influence on decision-making processes. "Otherwise, we will not agree to do that," Baghdasaryan said.
He also touched on the mayoral elections in Vanadzor, refuting the information that the Vanadzor Elders' Council members from the Armenian Rebirth party broke the arrangement among the opposition forces that won the local elections, and voted for the candidate of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia during the secret voting.
