ArmInfo. Armenia faces the prospect of large-scale and system changes, Armenian President Serzh Sarsgyan said at the opening of the conference "Armenia-25: The World and The Women" of the Women's Council of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) on November 5.
He said that the 6 Dec 2015 constitutional referendum marked the beginning of more democratic governance. "We will experience serious and important changes, which will not be restricted to change of persons or names, but will be large-scale and system changes. The results will not be slow to arrive, Moreover, they should be tangible and obvious for each citizen of Armenia", the President said, stressing that large-scale consolidation of the Armenian society, including women is of much importance. "The next 2-3 years will be momentous for Armenia. I am sure the living standards in Armenia will be improving with every passing day. I am confident that Armenia will be a strong and prosperous country. I am sure intellectual and organization capital of Armenian women is needed," he said.
For her part, Head of the RPA Women's Council Hermine Naghdalyan said that the country has a lot of problems ranging from corruption to poverty and migration. In this context, she expressed confidence that the new government and Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan will do their best to conduct tangible reforms. Naghdalyan added that Armenia and Artsakh constantly have to resist international challenges and Azerbaijani aggression, however, it does not affect the high morale of Armenian women. "We express our solidarity to President Sargsyan, who says that Artsakh can be part of Azerbaijan under no circumstances,"she said.
President of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan also sent a congratulary address, saying that throughout history the Armenian woman has been the symbol of home and family, an important pledge of maintenance of national tradirions, patriotic education of younger generation. "It is impossible to imagine the existence of the nation, our victories, faith and optimism without these values. Today Armenian women are actively involved in the public and political life, and play an importan role in state construction, defence of the Motherland, education, upbringing, etc. This is a big achievement, which is also a necessary condition for natural development of the state and its establishment as a part of the civilized world," he said.
