ArmInfo.Sergey Glazyev, Advisor to Russian President, understands how sensitive the promotion of Russian-Turkish cooperation is for Armenians, but he does not share these fears. "I see no infringement of Armenians' rights," Glazyev said at the Fifth Russian-Armenian Interregional Forum in Yerevan on October 14.
He noted that the matter concerns resumption of cooperation between Moscow and Ankara and reanimation of the projects suspended for political reasons. Glazyev thinks that the closer the economic cooperation is, the more stable the political situation in the region will be.
The crisis in the Russia-Turkey relations broke out after a Turkish fighter jet downed a Russian Su-24 over Syria on 24 November 2015. Russian President Vladimir Putin qualified it as "a stab in the back" and introduced a number of economic restrictions against Turkey. Seven months later, on 27 June 2016, it was reported that Putin received a message from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who apologized for the downed Russian aircraft and expressed his condolences over the Russian pilot's death. Afterwards, the Russian President signed a decree lifting the restrictions against Turkey.
