ArmInfo. President of Union of Armenians of Russia" (UAR) Ara Abrahamyan is dissatisfied with the quality of work being held with Diaspora, he stated about this on the sidelines of the 5th Russian-Armenian Interregional forum in Yerevan.
According to Abrahamyan the current complex economic situation in Armenia is caused also by the fact that the potential of Diaspora is not used duly. "Only 1% of the Diaspora potential is being used on the current stage", he stated. According to the President of UAR the reason of this is lack of decisive and developed ideology related to Armenia-Diaspora relations, as well as cooperation between various structures of the Diaspora. "We should come out in a united front, and not in separate groups", Abrahamyan stated.
However, Abrahamyan believes in potential and future of the new Armenian government headed by Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan. According to him foreign investments attracted through strengthening confidence towards Armenia may become driver for local economy development. In this context Abrahamyan thinks that it is necessary to meet several tasks: to solve relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan, as well as to hold reforms inside the country, starting from reviewing tax framework to improving Armenian mentality.
At the same time Ara Abrahamyan refused to comment on his political ambitions in Armenia and possibility of his participation in parliamentary elections, noting that his plans have not changed.
To note, Abrahamyan stated at a press conference on October 14 2015 about his intention to participate in the parliamentary elections in 2017. According to him a lot of people work with him and develop programs. Abrahamyan stated that he considers two possible models of participation in parliamentary elections: to establish his own party or to join one of the running ones in Armenia. "Founding new party is more possible, however I do not exclude the second model", Abrahamyan said adding that the final decision will be made in March. However, this date was delayed several times.
