ArmInfo. Acting Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian delivered a speech at the University of California, Berkeley.
The press office of the Armenian Foreign Ministry has told ArmInfo that Nalbandian dwelled on the April aggression of Azerbaijan against Karabakh and its consequences.
"Azerbaijan blatantly violated the ceasefire agreements of 1994-95 and unleashed thoroughly planned aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh, using offensive weapons - air force, heavy artillery, multiple rocket launch systems, armored vehicles. Baku's reckless scheme seriously harmed the Karabakh peace talks," the Armenian diplomat said.
He noted that Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs are exerting efforts to overcome the consequences of the Azerbaijani aggression. He stressed the needs to restore the confidence in the peace process. For that purpose, it is necessary to create favorable conditions to prevent the use of force and to promote the peace process.
"This is the key goal of the Vienna meeting in May and the St. Petersburg meeting in June," he said, emphasizing the need to ensure implementation of the agreements reached during these meetings: full respect and implementation of the trilateral ceasefire agreements of 1994-95, creation of mechanisms to investigate the incidents, expansion of the OSCE CiO Personal Representative's Office.
Nalbandian also touched on the situation in Syria, the challenges faced by Syria Armenians, Armenia's relations with its neighbors, Yerevan's approaches to a number of regional issues, the 71st session of the UN General Assembly and the results of the meetings held in the United States.
