ArmInfo. The Rise Up Armenia movement condemns the illegal actions of Armenia's authorities against the movement representatives David Hovhannisyan and Andrias Ghukasyan, who have been under arrest for over 50 days.
In its statement sent to ArmInfo, the movement calls for immediate release of Hovhannisyan and Ghukasyan, because the longer they stay in custody, the stronger the public discontent with the police's actions grows.
"If the authorities ignore this call, Rise Up Armenia will start a civil disobedience action stipulated by the Constitution of Armenia," the statement says.
To recall, David Hovhannisyan was detained on August 30. He is charged with participation in mass disorders (Article 225.2 of the Armenian Criminal Code). The court has sentenced him to 2-month arrest.
New Armenia movement coordinator Andrias Ghukasyan was detained and then arrested after the events on July 29 evening in Sari Tagh district of Yerevan, when the police applied special devices to disperse the demonstration of the supporters of Sasna Tsrer (Daredevils of Sassoon) group, which seized a police compound on July 17. Ghukasyan is charged with organizing mass disorders during the demonstration. Arrest has been chosen as a measure of restraint against Ghukasyan.
