Polling stations will open in Yerevan and Gyumri for the citizens of Russia to get an opportunity to exercise their right to vote in the elections of the State Duma of the 7th convocation, Advisor of the Russian Ambassador to Armenia Oleg Shapovalov told a news conference in Yerevan on September 13.
"The polling station No.8026 will open at the Russian Embassy in Armenia in Grigor Lusavorich Street 13a. Another polling station opened at the Russian Consulate General in Gyumri in Garegin Nzhdeh Street 1 as well as in the territory of the 102nd military base. The polling stations will be open in the period from 8:00am to 8:00pm on September 18. The citizens need to have international passports," Shapovalov said,
Mark Kalinin, the head of the Russian Center for science and Culture in Yerevan, in turn, said Rossotrudnichestvo in Armenia is actively working to raise the awareness of the Russian citizens on the upcoming elections to the State Duma. "There are Hot Line numbers for everyone who has any questions about the upcoming elections. The Hot Line numbers are 520340, 544890," he said adding that there is an information desk at the Center too.
Head of the Consular Department of the Russian Embassy in Armenia Piotr Shchukin said the authorities of Armenia were informed beforehand about the elections in the territory of the country. The government expressed readiness to provide assistance in the process, including in the security measuring during the voting.
Shchukin could not say how many citizens are in the territory of Armenia, as there is no such register in view of the close friendly relations of the two countries. "There may be dozens and hundreds of thousands of voters," he said.
The Russian citizens in 145 countries may vote at more than 360 polling stations during the elections to the State Duma on September 18.
