ArmInfo. Ivana Zivkovic, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), is on a visit to Armenia.
During her first day of the official visit to Armenia, Ivana Zivkovic, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), accompanied by Natia Natsvlishvili, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, visited UNDP project sites in Gegharkunik and Tavush regions.
In Sevan, she got acquainted with the work of the Automatic Weather Station modernized within the framework of the UNDP Climate Risk Resilience in Armenia project, funded by the Government of Japan and implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Environment of Armenia. Overall, UNDP modernized 11 stations in Gegharkunik, Tavush, and Syunik regions. The modernization increased the weather monitoring and observation accuracy and country wide coverage up to 80 percent enabling provision of more reliable hydrometeorological information to the population of Armenia.
UNDP RBEC Regional Director in Norashen State Reserve, a nesting area of endemic Armenian gulls, observed the rich biodiversity of Sevan National Park and learned about the Park Management Plan - a tool for more efficient management and conservation of Lake Sevan natural resources and biodiversity.
In Dilijan, Ms. Zivkovic visited energy efficient buildings retrofitted through the funding of the Green Climate Fund. So far, 152 residential and 52 public buildings were retrofitted in Armenia, including 45 kindergartens and schools, decreasing energy consumption from 40 to 60 percent and benefiting more than 46,000 residents, with over 50 percent being women and girls.
