ArmInfo. Armenia's government has commented on the results of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's meeting with residents of the village of Kirants, Tavush province.
According to the press service of the executive body, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and other officials took part in the meeting that took place the day before.
Village residents raised all the issues that concerned them.
The RA Prime Minister presented in detail the current process of delimitation and demarcation of borders and emphasized that all the problems are well known in the government. It was proposed to begin work on site and resolve the issues that arose through joint discussions.
Meanwhile, as Gegham Nazaryan of the opposition parliamentary faction Armenia, noted in a conversation with journalists the day before, the authorities again left the village residents in a state of uncertainty. He emphasized that the Kirans insisted that the new border between Armenia and Azerbaijan correspond to the administrative boundaries of the Soviet period. However, this initiative was not accepted by the authorities. Moreover, as Nazaryan noted, the village residents were told that this border allegedly ran incorrectly.
According to an official press release, on the basis of geodetic measurements on the border of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, within the framework of coordinate adjustment works, as of April 29, 2024, more than half of the planned works have been carried out: 35 border posts have been installed. The work of the expert groups of the two countries continues.
On April 19, the commission for demarcation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to begin demarcation of the border from the Tavush region. According to them, the description of these sections of the border line will be drawn up taking into account the clarification of the coordinates that will be obtained as a result of geodetic measurements on site. All this will be documented in the appropriate protocol description, which must be agreed upon and signed between the parties before May 15 of this year.
