ArmInfo. In Armenia, on the morning of April 29, protests in defense of residents of villages in the Tavush region resumed.
In particular, protesters opposing unilateral concessions to Azerbaijan blocked the Armavir-Gyumri highway. Next to the protesters are deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition faction "Armenia" Gegham Manukyan and Mher Sahakyan.
A representative of the RA Police pointed out the illegal nature of the action, which leads to a violation of public order. He threatened the protesters that if the road was not unblocked within two minutes, law enforcement agencies would begin to carry out their functions. In response, Gegham Manukyan recalled that on May 15 a protocol should be signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the border areas subject to delimitation. "Today, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, violating all public norms, illegally establishes border checkpoints. Currently, all units of the Police troops must be in front of the government building and, in accordance with the current legislation, detain this person who is most violating public order," the oppositionist noted.
Meanwhile, as the Police representative noted, these justifications have nothing to do with the fact of blocking the road.
Another participant in the action demanded an answer to the question of why law enforcement officers did not act when Nikol Pashinyan himself and members of his team took similar actions in 2018.
However, the Police leadership reiterated their legitimate demands to immediately unblock the road. The situation continues to remain tense. The protesters are chanting "Nikol is a traitor", "Nikol is a murderer".
At the same time, there is unrest in the second largest and most important city of Armenia - Gyumri. A group of local residents is holding a march in calling for people to join the protests and prevent new territorial concessions.
On April 19, the Armenian Foreign Ministry, following the results of the eighth meeting of state commissions, announced that Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to begin delimitation from the Tavush region and by July 1 to complete the approval of the draft regulations on the joint activities of delimitation commissions. Since the evening of the same day, residents of the border villages of Tavush, dissatisfied with the agreements, have been holding protests.
