ArmInfo. The Hayastan (Armenia) opposition faction has announced the resignation of its membership in international organizations as part of Armenian parliamentary delegations.
According to the statement, Armenian parliamentary delegations were formed this August, with Hayastan faction members included. "In fact, the opposition MPs have not so far been involved in these activities.
The reason is the absolutely illegal arrest of our workmates, as well as illegal travel restrictions imposed on other MPs, including the one forming part of the delegation," reads the statement. In fact, the MPs` constitutional activities are being impeded. "Each of the trials has a purely political component, without any legal grounds. This is an unprecedented situation for a CE member-state, which is evidence of Armenia not being a democratic rule-of-law state any longer.
"Under the circumstances, the Hayastan bloc states that the MPs cannot have different statuses. So the bloc resigns its membership in all the international organizations and refuses to participate in any meetings outside Armenia until all the restrictions imposed on the bloc members are removed. The international organizations in question will be informed of the decision," reads the statement.
The Hayastan faction members Mkhitar Zakaryan (ex-mayor of Meghri), Armen Charchyan (ex-director of the Izmirlyan medical center) and Artur Sargsyan (ex-head of the Sisian community) remain in custody. They even attended parliamentary meetings, but were later arrested.
