ArmInfo. The exchange of detainees and minefield maps between Azerbaijan and Armenia is a very important humanitarian step. Kestutis Jankauskas, Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Azerbaijan, said this during a press conference, adding that Brussels welcomes this step.
"The European Union also took part in this process. But, of course, Azerbaijan and Armenia did the most important thing. Our participation in this process is evidence of partnership with Azerbaijan. The basis of the political aspect of our partnership is stability, peace and development in the region," he stressed. It is worth noting that more than two hundred Armenian prisoners of war and civilians are being held illegally in Azerbaijani captivity. According to point 8 of the trilateral statement of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia of November 9, 2020, all prisoners of war were to be released immediately and without preconditions. Meanwhile, against the background of the inaction of the international community, Azerbaijan continues to speculate on these issues and receive dividends.
Moreover, the Azerbaijani authorities are arranging trials on fabricated criminal cases over Armenian prisoners of war. The last verdict was passed literally today against the Lebanese Armenian Viken Eulcekjian, who was captured by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on November 10, 2020. By the decision of the staging court, Viken Eulcekjian was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
