ArmInfo. Armenian prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan must be immediately released. This is stated in the letter of acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Sigrid Kaag to the country's parliament.
As reported by the Armenian Embassy in the Netherlands, the Dutch diplomat in her letter, referring to the discussions of the Karabakh problem in the EU Council of Foreign Ministers, said that the Netherlands focused on the importance of Azerbaijan's early release of the remaining Armenian prisoners of war, while pointing out the need to immediately send a UNESCO mission to the region on assessment of cultural heritage.
"On May 28, at the initiative of the Netherlands, the EU issued a new joint statement, which expresses deep concern about the processes on the border and emphasizes the need to reduce tensions. It calls for an immediate withdrawal of troops from the border and indicates the need to clarify the issue of demarcation exclusively through negotiations. The statement also contains a call to Azerbaijan to immediately release the Armenian prisoners of war, "the diplomat said, quoted by the Armenian Embassy.
