ArmInfo. In the context of COVID-19, one of the main problems of the education system is the issue of its financing. Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan stated this at a press conference on January 25.
She recalled that today, on January 25, the world celebrates the International Day of Education for the third time, which is held under the motto "Recovering and revitalizing education for the COVID-19 generation." One of the main problems in a pandemic is the question of financing the system, especially when the social and economic situation is deteriorating. It is very important, the deputy minister continued, that in the context of the epidemic, the education sector continues to be considered as one of the priority areas. In this context, Zhanna Andreasyan noted, it is necessary to maintain the volume of financing at least at the current level. Moreover, the coronavirus has led to a violation of the principle of accessibility and fairness. Of the three students, one usually dropped out of the education system. It is important to hold substantive discussions on this issue and decide on further policy.
In Armenia, the situation was further complicated by the hostilities, as a result of which it became necessary to ensure a consistent educational process for Karabakh children. At present, about 70% of all Artsakh children have returned to their places of permanent residence, where they continue their education, but about 7 thousand children are still in Armenia. All these factors, as Zhanna Andreasyan noted, have left their mark on the education system, which today needs actions to determine further policy.
As a reminder, the General Assembly of the United Nations has proclaimed January 24 as the International Day of Education in recognition of the important role of education in ensuring peace and development. The third International Day of Education is celebrated on January 25, 2021 under the motto "Recovering and revitalizing education for the COVID-19 generation". Global events during Education Day will be organized around three main segments: learning heroes, innovation, and funding. They will be organized in partnership with the UNESCO Office in New York, United Nations Headquarters, the Global Partnership for Education and the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (CRI), as well as partners with the UNESCO Global Coalition for Education.
