ArmInfo. The Council of Europe (CoE) expects that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) will soon take a decision on Yerevan's request for interim measures in connection with the aggravation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. Official representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Daniel Holtgen, reported this to the TASS correspondent on Monday.
"The ECHR received a request from Armenia on the application of interim measures in accordance with Article 39 of the court rules," he said. "I cannot say yet when the decision on this appeal will be made, but I expect it to happen soon," Holtgen said.
In accordance with Article 39 of the ECHR Rules, at the request of one of the parties, the court "may indicate to the parties any interim measures it deems necessary."
Yesterday, the representation of Armenia to the ECHR reported that Yerevan applied to the European Court of Human Rights with a request to apply interim measures against Azerbaijan in connection with the aggravation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. Interim or interim measures means the prohibition of the defendant to take actions that may lead to the infliction of irreparable and at the same time substantial harm to the applicant or the protected interests of citizens.
It should be noted that in addition to the petition for an interim measure against Azerbaijan submitted to the European Court of Human Rights the day before, the Republic of Armenia presented to the ECHR today new facts of the bombing of settlements, civilian objects and civilians by the Azerbaijani armed forces. "In parallel with the development of events, new facts will be presented to the ECHR," the statement circulated by the representative of Armenia to the ECHR says.
