ArmInfo.Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ararat Mirzoyan made a statement on the nomination of a candidate for the position of a judge of the Constitutional Court, the press service of the government reports.
The statement, in particular, notes: "Being led by Article 166.1 and Article 213.3 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia the Government of the Republic of Armenia nominated for the post of the judge of the Constitutional Court Edgar Shatiryan's candidacy".
To note, earlier the government nominated Vahram Avetisyan for the position of judge of the Constitutional Court, however, the latter withdrew his candidacy after meeting with the MPs.
To recall, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ararat Mirzoyan signed the law on amendments to the law "On the Constitutional Court", which was adopted on June 30. In accordance with them, the powers of all judges of the Constitutional Court are limited to 12 years. After the adoption of the amendments, three judges who had worked for over 12 years were dismissed from their posts: Alvina Gyulumyan, Hrant Nazaryan and Felix Tokhyan. Head of the court, Hrayr Tovmasyan, has become an ordinary judge. New judges will now be elected instead. One candidate is proposed by the government, the second - by the president, the third - by the General Assembly of Judges. At the general meeting of judges, the chairman of the RA Court of Cassation Yervand Khundkaryan was elected as a candidate for the Constitutional Court judge. Artur Vagharshyan, nominated by the President, is a Doctor of Law, Professor.
