ArmInfo. Today Turkey is actively preparing for Armenia's steps to revise a number of international treaties. The former Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Arman Navasardyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"The matter concerns both [the Treaty of Sevres, which expires this year, as well as the Russian-Turkish - Moscow Treaty, and the Treaty of Lausanne. I am inclined to consider in this light the regional policy of Turkey, in particular, periodic joint military exercises with Azerbaijan near borders of Armenia, including the exercises on the territory of the Azerbaijani exclave Nakhijevan, "he said.
According to the diplomat, with such steps Ankara is trying to gain a foothold in Nakhijevan, including with the aim of turning this territory into a springboard in case a military strike on Armenia is necessary. According to Navasardyan, Ankara is well aware that the revision of the aforementioned agreements is the number one issue for Armenian diplomacy. And by such threatening actions and statements, they are trying to prevent the possibility of this scenario coming true.
In this light, Yerevan, according to the diplomat, needs to immediately start revising its own defense capabilities, primarily through their diversification, moreover, not only in the political, but also in the economic field.
In this context, in his opinion, the big political game that has already begun between China and Iran is of no small interest. "We are talking about the upcoming signing of a large agreement between Beijing and Tehran for a period of 25 years. Among other things, this agreement, worth $ 600 billion, provides for the creation of the Great Silk Road. And Armenia needs to do everything to become a part of this project. As in economic purposes, and in order to increase their own defense capacity and, accordingly, the degree of security, " the diplomat concluded.
