ArmInfo. The Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram the First visited the Armenian-populated areas of Beirut after the explosion in the port. Aram the First was accompanied by the mayor Bourj Hammoud Martik Poghosyan.
The Catholicos' visit was broadcast live on the official Cilicia TV Facebook page. The video shows damaged buildings, broken glass. Later it became known that the explosion caused property and material damage to the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia.
It became known that the doors, chandeliers and windows of the Cathedral in Antilias were damaged. The same damage was done to the Patriarchal Chamber, the Armenian scientific and pedagogical centers, the Cilicia museum.
To note, a powerful explosion occurred on Tuesday evening in the port of Beirut. As reported later in the Lebanese security forces, ammonium nitrate detonated from a contraband cargo confiscated from one of the ships several years ago. All these years, explosives have been stored in a warehouse in the port awaiting their destruction. Ammonium nitrate is used as a component of explosives and as nitrogen fertilizer.
The explosion killed at least 78 people and injured over 4,000. The blast wave destroyed and damaged dozens of houses, cars, glass were broken in many quarters of the capital. At the scene, the debris is being dismantled and the search for survivors and dead. The country has declared four days of mourning.
