ArmInfo. From the point of view of the resumption of hostilities, we have a more dangerous situation than 2 years ago. The second president of Armenia Robert Kocharian stated this in an interview with a number of opposition TV channels.
Kocharian noted that Azerbaijan tried to improve its combat positions, and the Armenian armed forces not only prevented these attempts, but also gave a worthy counterattack, they improved their positions. "Trying to return to the previous situation, Azerbaijan began bombing Armenian villages. And this local battle turned into a larger-scale military operation. In fact, for the first time in the past two years, we have prevented Azerbaijan's desire to improve its combat positions. It is very important to always think about improving and strengthening positions on the front line, which, unfortunately, we have not done for the last 2 years. They improved their position and, probably, decided that it should be so, "the second president of Armenia emphasized.
He noted that he visited the front line every year and made an annual plan of work on the front line. "Every year we have invested serious resources in improving the situation. This is a daily work, and this is how it should be, "Kocharyan stressed.
The second president of Armenia noted that, as it turned out recently, the president of Azerbaijan is not so constructive, Azerbaijan is not so peaceful, and the Azerbaijani people are not so ready for peace. "Even during the war, in 1991-1994, such clashes between Armenians and Azerbaijanis never took place either in Moscow or in the United States. Today, both the authorities and the people of Azerbaijan are eager for revenge. And if they unite, the likelihood of war is very high, "Kocharyan stressed.
The second president noted that the Armenian government must admit that during these two years it has been pursuing a wrong policy on this issue.
Kocharian also touched upon the Turkish-Azerbaijani military exercises, stating that they are intended to demonstrate strength. Such large-scale military exercises are also a serious political signal for all countries in the region.
