ArmInfo.Henrik Avagyan and Garen Atajanyan, accused of the attempted assassination of Surik Khachatryan, former governor of the RA Syunik region, were sentenced to 12 years in prison.
On July 27, by a court decision, Henrikh Avagyan was found guilty of attempted murder of two or more persons, stipulated by Articles 34-104 of the RA Criminal Code, and Garen Atajanian was found guilty of a crime stipulated by Articles 235 and 38-34-104 of the RA Criminal Code (illegal acquisition of weapons and ammunition, aiding attempted murder). For health reasons, Atajanyan was released from criminal punishment; Avagyan will remain under arrest until the sentence comes into force.
To recall, the attempted assassination of Surik Khachatryan was committed on May 20, 2015: on that day, his car was fired on the Goris-Kapan road, but there were no casualties. After the incident, a criminal case was opened and charges were brought against Henrik Avagyan, Garen Atajanyan, Ara Budaghyan and Vitaly Minasyan. Later, the criminal proceedings against Budagyan and Minasyan were terminated.
